She Sat and Sang

She sat and sang alway
By the green margin of a stream,
Watching the fishes leap and play
Beneath the glad sunbeam.

I sat and wept alway
Beneath the moon's most shadowy beam,
Watching the blossoms of the May
Weep leaves into the stream.

I wept for memory;
She sang for hope that is so fair:
My tears were swallowed by the sea;
Her songs died in the air.

My poor abandoned blog, I have been quiet... Again! mid-semester is always a busy time. Today I had time to do a quick look in my new high-waisted trousers from Cindy Leigh Armstrong's new limited range. When I saw these I knew I could style them in a unique way and the result is something very different from the editorial pictures. I think they resemble ladies Victorian-riding trousers and interpreted the theme in line with this perception.

I must get back to the books, but shall return soon, refreshed and inspired...

Her skin was white like frosted dew
In the moonlight her eyes shown anew
Silver spindles up yet down
forbidden taste that divinely crown
yet the spindles do not reach her quiver
but remain in my courtly thither
for that not touched, is that not had
wistful I sleep with dreams forever

Some poetry from yours truly...

I can feel autumns sweet kiss in the air, the cool breeze so slight yet so cool, the prospect of it cooling fills me with glee. A few more weeks and the leaves will have completely fallen, my favourite time of year.

I took advantage and decided to wear my new over-the-knee socks. I found them at Woolworths recently and was very happy, I am always trolling sock shops on-line, finding these locally was a lucky strike.

I matched them with my Litas, Tutu (which I wear too much) and this cute bow top I picked up at Mr Price.

I seem to have been bitten by the busy bug again, more assignments rolling in and a few prospective shoots in line. I must manage my time carefully though, so I am unsure how realistic they are, studies and work always take preference. We shall see what I can muster along the way and how brave I feel.

Abandoned Ivy and red red lips

I have been quiet again, but is only because I have been feverishly busy, a state I seem to be becoming more and more involved with. A busy mind is a happy mind is it not?

I have been over the past few months developing a course for the company I work for Cambridge Link Education. Writing a English Literature course proved to be more challenging than I set myself out to think, however, it is coming along nicely and at the brink of fruition. Three years of gained knowledge documented into a collective work has made me realise the extent of my studies and how much one really does cover in a Degree. Semesters seem so short, and if not reading set-works, sighting journals or writing essays you find yourself  having very little time to stop and consider *all* the knowledge you have gained. This has been a pleasant experience and I am sure that when I see the course in print, it shall be a triumph, to many late nights and copious amounts of coffee.

This is the one reason I have been so busy, but I also  have something else to share, which is quite exciting. It has been a while since I have modelled in the stricter sense of the word, for someone else's art direction, and on Friday I  found myself posing in a beautiful  Ivy covered abandoned house, with two other beautiful models for six photographers.

A photography student contacted me asking if I would consider modelling for her, a group of classmates and her lecturer. I quickly agreed, as I am always happy to involve myself in any sort of independent art projects. The result was a tiring but consequently spectacular day. I have a few images to share with your from two of the students, but will do a corresponding entry once I have a selection from all the photographers. it will be interesting to review how they all interpreted the same subject matter.

Photoprapher Jes Hunter

I am in love with Jes Hunter, and that is not to say that I didn't enjoy working with everyone else, but we have a sort of affinity and a corresponding aesthetic ideal when it comes to art direction. She is very much like me an avid believer and supporter of natural light. We hope to work together again soon and I hope to photograph her too.

You can see more of her work here

I must now return to work and concern myself with the final touches of my course... It is so close to completion I can almost see its printed existence in my contented yet sweaty hands ..

Sublime wishes and as always thank you for reading

Curiouser and curiouser

Just enough time for a quick look today, and I always have time for a little something inspired by Alice...

I love these black and white Mary-janes from Demonia, something I think every girl should have in her cupboard. I absoultely love wearing them with white tights it makes me feel very doll like and girly...

The pretty dress is just one of the many I have picked up along the way. I think I bought it cause it inspired some sort of Alice theme in my mind when I first saw it. I guess you could say that thought has come to actualisation with today's outfit.

When Roses cease to bloom, Sir

When Roses cease to bloom, Sir,
And Violets are done --
When Bumblebees in solemn flight
Have passed beyond the Sun --
The hand that paused to gather
Upon this Summer's day
Will idle lie -- in Auburn --
Then take my flowers -- pray!

Emily Dickenson

I absolutely love these high-waisted shorts and they are so comfortable. The button details are really cute and I am a sucker for strips. The lace top is a great find I picked up at Topshop when I was visiting the UK. The lace detail is only on the sleeves and collar leaving the remainder a lovely soft cotton. Making it super comfortable and not itchy, like some lace can be.

I love my Borello Teaze shoes they are so beautiful, but super super high... Not that that has ever been a problem for me. However, a word of advice if your thinking about purchasing, they require a good sense of balance, if your going to wear them convincingly. Your going to have to channel your inner Dita. The range is inspired by burlesque dancers making the shoes super sexy in design. I love them so much!

The Sick Rose

O Rose, thou art sick!
The invisible worm,
That flies in the night,
In the howling storm,

Has found out thy bed
Of crimson joy;
And his dark secret love
                     Does thy life destroy.            Blake

Arwen Garmentry is a world renowned corsetry, which also specialises in couture pieces, based in Parkhusrt. Arwen discribes her work as follows: "sublime corsetry, bewitching evening wear, gorgeous bridal wear and distinctive daywear." Arwen's attention to detail and broad quality of fabrics brings an array of carefully made pieces that are unique and altered to the individuals tastes and figure. I am lucky to have modelled for the company and even more lucky to call Arwen and her partner Ben close friends. I have quite a collection of corsets and can happily say their quality is unmatched. The Corset I am wearing is a cream Sweetheart Merry Widow with Victorian lace embellishment.

Today has been a beautiful rainy day in Johannesburg and this kind of weather always gets me inspired. I am not fond of the heat and rejoice at these rare relapses. I can however, say with much glee winter is on its way... Soon will come the time of over the knee socks and platform boots.

Letters to blackwood

Letters to Blackward...

Seeing as I have had my head in books the last two weeks, I only thought it fitting that I do something inspired by literature. I have a passion for classical literature and the reference to "blackward" is inspired by Poe's How to write a blackward article.

I included the top hat as symbol of the era. The shoes are the most beautiful soft leather, I picked them up at a little shop the other day, and the blouse and tutu are things that were in my cupboard.

The dark aesthetic

While the soft and ethereal have captured my heart, I will always remain in love with the dark aesthetic...
Romance, passion, intrigue the essence of romanticism will always capture both the light and dark.

Inside the redhead's pocket-watch

I spent some time this morning contemplating where I would like to go with this page...

I made this inspiration board as a means of collecting some images that inspire concepts, thoughts and my affiliation to the soft and ethereal. I hope that I can share these parts of me and create something that truly reflects my inspirations and ideas.

Feeling inspired and anticipating the things to come.

The end in sight

Having worked copious hours the last week I can happily say the end is in sight...

One more assignment on the History of English and I will be positively free and have some time for creative expression and some more thoughts...

Books, books, Books

I just got back from the most amazing Exclusive Books warehouse sale. I admit I was apprehensive as to what I would pick up, as they were offering them at R50 per Kg. ( that is about 4.5 pounds/ 6 dollars)

I was, however, pleasantly surprised as you can see and sourced 12kgs worth of books. Having collected numerous titles I have been pinning for at a tenth of the price I am both ecstatic and pleasantly surprised. Many hours of reading pleasure ahead, but first, I must tackle all my university assignments...

Viona Art

Seeing as I do not have time to take pictures this week I thought I would quickly share some inspiration. Viona Art is a German photographic art project, creating truly amazing imagery. A spoil for any eyes.

I danced a sepia dance

I have been quiet... But fear not more things to come soon...

Between University deadlines, my students needs and general life I have been left with very little free time. I am however slaying the deadlines and will return soon with much inspiration and thoughts and lace, corsets, platforms and pretties to share.

In the meantime here is a picture of me frolicking in the forest <3

Photographing women

I think the desire to capture beauty is first and foremost a feature of my artistic ideals. The creation of subject is to me a means of translating that which is naturally beautiful into an image. An image that not only celebrates but accentuates the individual. My photography is very egocentric in its subject portrayal, I enjoy the intimate process of creating a subject. I often direct the creative process, assisting in make-up, styling and presentation.  I like to guide the process and translate my aesthetic appreciation of the subject into the image. In that sense I feel my photography is very personal, and represents a relationship between me and the intended subject.
